LIDA Grievance Policy and Procedure
All grievances against LIDA, Inc., members must be submitted in writing to LIDA’s Grievance Committee with a detailed account of the event or behavior in question; LIDA member’s name, the location and date of the behavior in question, and a list of all parties involved including any witnesses and (any)written evidence. The complaint must be filed within one (1) year of the occurrence. All grievances are to be typed and signed by all parties with a complaint.
When the grievance committee receives a complaint against a LIDA member, that LIDA member will be notified in writing within ten (10) days. The LIDA member then has 30 days to answer the complaint with their own account of the event or behavior in question. Any evidence or witnesses must be listed and included in the response from the LIDA member.
If the member is a LIDA Certified doula, the Committee has the right to decide any and all penalties, reprimands, and consequences of the judgement. All LIDA certified professionals must agree to this system of accountability prior to entering into the certification process and agree to abide by the decisions of the grievance committee, with no right to sue for damages. Possible results may be removal of credentials and certification or warnings. This grievance policy and system is essential to the integrity of our organization. LIDA members must, at all times, demonstrate professional behavior and ethics according to our Code of Conduct, Standards of Practice, and Grievance Policy.
If the LIDA member is not certified through LIDA, Inc., but a member in good standing, it is LIDA’s policy to forward the grievance letter to their certifying body. If the member does not have a certifying body, the letter will be directed to the member who is acting on their own behalf.
The professional involved with a grievance must not, in any way, contact the party placing the complaint. The committee will then take all evidence and accounts from both parties involved and make every effort to render a fair and impartial judgment to the best of their ability.
The judgment of the committee is final.
