Pathway for Doulas to be in O.R.

NYU Winthrop Doula Project
Pathway for doulas to be in O.R.
NYU Winthrop and LIDA are making a difference for women that attend NYU Winthrop Hospital through our volunteer doula program. Dr. Vinzileos, the head of OB, has noticed the impact of a doulas role for both the women in our community and the hospital itself. We have also noticed the impact of this program for LIDA trained doulas themselves. The program has given newly trained doulas the hands-on experience that they couldn’t find elsewhere.
A new program has been implemented that permits our trained doulas to be in the O.R. to give the patient the continuation of care that they deserve.
This training will gain you OR access as shifts for scheduled cesarean births, but it will also give you access if you are laboring with a mom on L&D and need to accompany her to the OR.
In order to be eligible for this program an additional training is required.
Class size is limited
What you will learn:
Each doula that has the proper training will receive an OR sticker on her ID badge designating her completion of the program.
*** Doula presence in the O.R. will still be dependent on anesthesiologist and primary surgeon approval.
